Tonight! 16+

We have one week until the performance of the play! Good thing it's a short play, huh!!

So, we'll block, practice and perfect our craft . . .

And we'll see all SPLATters next week as "The Diva's Demise" starts off our summer PLAT!!!

Forget it, girls!

We just don't spend the big bucks like the boys do on our manga!

"Few shojo manga grow into the massive anime, video game, feature-length movie and sequel franchises that are common of shonen (boy’s) manga like Naruto or Death Note." (read this)

So, no online manga site to replace Shojo Beat.

It's Ikki! And that's Icky!!! (editorial)

Oh! No! There Goes Shojo!!!!

Shojo Beat will cease publication in July.

Circulation seems to be the key - they have only 35,000 subscribers. (Shonen Jump has 200,000)

I'm really sad. Should I pick up one or more of the manga currently serialized in the magazine? Which one(s)?

P B and J Day And 16+ play practice

Today is PB and J Day. With milk, fruit (maybe), chips, brownies and ???? And you'll get this summers schedule of activities.

It's also the last SPLAT of the school year. Don't despair! SPLAT - the summer version - starts next Thursday night with "The Diva's Demise", a mystery play to solve by watching the suspects (and questioning them) and viewing the crime scene. Everyone is invited. If you have siblings entering 7th grade in the fall, bring them. We need new blood! ("mwa-ha-ha")

At 16+ we'll be practicing for The Diva's Demise, to be given on June 4 - next Thursday. We are recruiting from younger SPLATters, so they will be coming Thursday night, too.

New To Us!

Did you like Generation Dead by Daniel Waters? (Phoebe Kendall is just your typical Goth girl with a crush. He's strong and silent...and dead - as in zombie dead, but back at school and trying to fit in . . .) Read that before you read its sequel, Kiss of Life, as the mighty strange high school days of Phoebe continue.

This book is on our New Shelf for Teens. You know where it is. (Next to the anime.)

Writing Workshop Starring . . . Writers!!!!!

Mark Your Calendars Now!!!

Erin Lynn and Rhonda Stapleton will conduct a writing workshop July 9, starting at 6:30 pm. They will talk about writing and publishing and then brainstorm with you.

Magazine Woes and Weepies

Alas, Anime Insider has 'bit the dust' - it's last issue was April's. Newtype died over a year ago, at least here in the States. Our library subscribes to: Thrasher, Rolling Stone, Entertainment, People, Shojo Beat, Justine, Seventeen, Shonen Jump, and The Magazine. (We have the usual 'adult' ones, too . . .) Electronic Gaming Monthly also stopped publication.

This is happening a lot, with a lot of magazines and newspapers.

Do you read magazines? Ours? Do you have suggestions for magazines we should subscribe to?

Every summer I say, "Let's make our own magazine!" No one answers back . . .

All about SPLAT 2009

When? From June 4 to July 30. SPLAT meets Tuesdays from 1 to 2:30 pm and (most) Thursdays from 6:30 - 8 pm

Who participates? Anyone entering 7th grade in the fall up through 12th grade.

Where? The Clyde Public Library.

Why? It gives you a chance to see your friends and make new friends. There’s lots to do: this year we are learning about Henna and getting tattooed (temporarily), we’re painting with coffee, making Goth Sock Puppets (and putting on a Goth Play???), creating avatars, watching Youtube videos, playing Stepmania and other video games (and board games, too), learning how to write fiction from young adult authors Erin McCarthy and Rhonda Stapleton , celebrating (finally) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie release, getting dramatic, and making stuff: scrapbooks, musical instruments and more. Oh, and we also have a lot of great books to read and rewards for reading them.

What next? Pick up a program schedule at the library after the first of June or be sure to come to Our Opening Program, the mystery play “The Diva’s Demise” on Thursday, June 4 at 6:30 pm. Our Henna program will be Thursday, June 25 at 6:30 pm. I'll also be listing programming information here, too.
